Christmas Food Distribution
In Malawi, hunger season lasts from the time a family's stored food runs out until their crops are harvested in May. This year, hunger season is expected to begin in December.
With no jobs to be found and prices of staple foods like beans and maize flour climbing every day, children attend school without eating breakfast. They come home, and there is no food for lunch. If they're lucky, there will be something for dinner. If not, they go to bed and hope for something better tomorrow.
This is Roots of Hope's eighth annual Christmas fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $2500 for a food distribution for the orphans and their guardians. They will receive staple foods to take home to use in the coming weeks. We also want to provide them with supplies to waterproof their thatch roofs, and school supplies for the next term.
Your donations will give these children a reason to smile on Christmas.
